Course Details

All courses are currently provisional, subject to final council and government permits being obtained.

Starting on Norman Road, participants in the Great Southern Bolt 5K will run or walk west for 700m before turning left into Aldinga scrub. Follow the road & fire trail until you exit the scrub on to Cox Road. A section of gravel road will take you to the Aldinga Beach Caravan Park where you will turn left into the Aldinga Scrub at gate 3 along Boomerang Track.

You will then follow the sealed roads bordering the Aldinga Scrub Conservation Park – Acacia Terrace, Sheoak Avenue, Kestrel Terrace, Wattle Avenue and Acacia Terrace again – back to Norman Road. There are 2 very short sections of sandy paths along this section of the course.

When you reach Norman Road you will turn right and head eastwards back to the finish line at the Aldinga Bay Surf Life Saving Club. Please run/walk within the coned section of Norman Road and follow instructions from the traffic managers at the intersection with the Esplanade.

Drink Stations

A water station will be located at the start/finish area, but there will be no drink stations located on the Great Southern Bolt 5K course.

We do not expect it to be too warm in May so please drink to thirst & be careful not to over-hydrate.

Only compostable cups made from plant-based materials will be used during the Great Southern Bolt to minimize our impact on the environment

Cut Off Time

The 5K course has a 1 hour cur-off time for finishing (equivalent to 12 minutes per kilometre).

A tail walker will follow the last participant around the course for safety reasons and to relieve marshals from their positions.

Please be courteous to our marshals and other volunteers. Remember that they are giving up their Sunday morning to make sure that you will enjoy your run.

Traffic Management

Runner safety is our utmost priority and traffic control on the road sections of the course will be managed by Workzone Traffic Control.

You will be running on a mixture of roads that are fully closed or still open to traffic under speed restrictions so it is essential that you follow signs & instructions and always run inside of the cones where they are present. Traffic will be managed so that runners have priority over vehicles throughout the course, but you should still remain vigilant for any cars exiting driveways, etc.

Trophies will be awarded to the first 3 male and first 3 female place-getters in the Great Southern Bolt 5K. Presentations will be made at the finish line shortly after the top 3 runners have finished (approximately 11:00 am).
